On September 3, 2005, Bella, my beloved wife and First Mate, after a brave and courageous 16-month fight with colorectal cancer, succumbed to The Beast. Bella was raised in New Jersey, so beaches and water were very much a part of her life. Although she had been aboard sailboats many times, the sailing bug didn't really bite hard until I took her sailing one day on Biscayne Bay near Miami, FL. We ran aground a couple of times and got caught in a downpour, but she loved it!
This led to many charter excursions together on Chesapeake Bay and in Maine. Oh, yes - somewhere along in there we were married! Together, we cruised the southern Caribbean during the winter months aboard La Nostra sharing the chores as we entertained our guests. In 2005 we hoped to take our next step - moving aboard full-time and cruising the world! But sometimes other harsh realities intervene. I intend to do my best to carry out our plans, and a large part of that involves keeping La Nostra available to share with others seeking to experience the cruising lifestyle. If you love sailing, or have a desire to nurture your spirit of adventure, you are cordially invited aboard to help keep her spirit alive.
The Last Lines We did fly, my love – higher and farther than either of us dared dream - Carried aloft by a love so strong and true that even the beast from hell could not break us apart. But your time for earthly flight has been torn asunder – Your brave, yet gentle wings, stripped of silken plumage, lie still. So rest peacefully, my dear friend – my lover – my First Mate. Sail on ahead of me for now. But as you go be certain of the knowledge that I will follow in your wake across the endless sea – We will again find each other - And together sail onward into eternity
